Our Mission and Inspiration Catholic Newman Club is a Catholic inspired social justice organization that meets on the first Saturday of every month. We strive to spread awareness about the importance of social justice in our world, and the value placed on your participation in the process. Social Justice is a term used to describe giving what is due to each human person and all God’s creation. Often times acts of social justice are described as service towards one’s neighbor. This might include speaking up for human rights in small groups of friends or in congress. It may also include working to better our environment and taking on conversationalist ideals. I invite you to visit the Catholic Social Teaching portion of our website to gain a better understanding of what catholic believe about social justice.

Monthly OutreachCatholic Newman Club meets on the first Saturday of every month at St. Tom’s University Parish, across from Mac Donald Hall. The meeting includes a mass, a service project, and dinner. Over the course of the year, participants will explore the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching through acts of outreach and conversation over dinner. The seven major themes are life and dignity of the human person, call to family, community, and participation, rights and responsibilities, option for the poor and vulnerable, the dignity of work and the rights of workers, and solidarity. More information about meeting times and agendas click here. For more information about the seven themes click here. |
Urban Plunge and Alternative Spring BreakDuring the Fall Break of BGSU, Catholic Newman Club takes students to an urban location such as Toledo or Chicago on a mission trip, and during Spring Break, there is a mission trip to Louisa Kentucky in the Appalachian Mountains. On these trips you will serve our brothers and sisters in Christ through action and prayer, while forming a strong bond of friendship with your peers and those you are serving. |

A Bit About Us
Catholic Newman Club has a long and rich tradition at Bowling Green State University. It all began in 1939 with a small group of Catholic Students who wanted something more in their faith life. Therefore, under the authority of the Bishop of Toledo and the Newman Club Federation the Catholic Newman Club at Bowling Green State University was formed. A more detailed history of Catholic Newman Club and St. Thomas More University Parish can be found by checking out the Newman History portion of our website.
Today Catholic Newman Club has taken on the mission of Social Justice. We use the color green to represent rebirth. This rebirth is present in everything we do as Christians, and is most present in Social Justice. Catholic Newman Club provides you with an opportunity to experience your faith through service, prayer, and action. Therefore, when deciding a moto the members chose “Catholics in Action.” It is our obligation as Christians to serve and speak for those in need through projects and political activism. |
